Year 5 and 6 Lord it up at the Houses of Parliament

On the day that the 650 newly-elected MPs returned to work, Year 5 and 6 went on a fabulous trip to the Houses of Parliament. Each class received a special tour of the Palace of Westminster, which included the House of Lords and the Royal Gallery, and the children learned so much about the history and the present day-to-day workings of Parliament. Sadly we weren’t able to see the House of Commons as we would otherwise have disturbed Prime Minister’s questions, but we were able to ask plenty of questions ourselves of our guides. Half of Year 6 were even fortunate enough to witness the Speakers’ Procession at midday, and the whole class were also privileged to receive a visit from our local MP, Matthew Offord, who fielded some really rather excellent questions! Suffice to say it was a school trip that will live long in the memory.
